Udupi, Oct 22: A severed human skull and skeletal remains were recovered from bushes near a private apartment in Ananth Nagar 3rd Cross on Wednesday, sparking widespread intrigue and curiosity.

The incident occurred while labourers were clearing grass and bushes in a vacant plot adjacent to a private apartment complex. During the clearing work, they spotted a skull and several human bones lying on one side of the area. Following this discovery, local residents alerted the Manipal police at around 4:00 pm.

Upon arriving at the scene and conducting a detailed search, the police recovered a partial skull lacking a jaw, a severed lower jaw, six rib bones, two arm bones, one thigh bone (femur), neck vertebrae, and several other small bone fragments. The skeletal remains are estimated to be approximately one year old. The Manipal police collected these remains and sent them to the forensic science laboratory for detailed examination.

The recovery has raised numerous questions regarding the motive behind the act—whether someone dumped the bones there to create panic and terror in the area, or whether an attempt was made to escape after committing a crime by dumping a portion of the bones at this spot while disposing of the remaining parts elsewhere.

The Manipal police have registered a case regarding the matter, are continuing their investigation, and are awaiting the forensic laboratory report.
