Los Angeles, Oct 28: Hollywood actress Jessica Biel has admitted that she wants to discourage her son from pursuing a career in music and acting if he expects opportunities simply because of his famous parents.
The 44-year-old actress had mixed feelings when her 11-year-old son, Silas, whom she shares with husband Justin Timberlake, was offered a role in her upcoming film Matchbox: The Movie.
While Silas is keen to follow in his parents' footsteps, Biel wants him to understand the importance of hard work and not expect roles merely because of his family connections.

Speaking to Josh Smith on the Great Chat Show podcast, Biel said she had explained to her son that other children work hard to pursue acting and should not lose opportunities because of his family background.
“I was talking to him, Silas, about, there are kids who work really hard, and they go to acting class, and they're in theatre class, and they're doing all the work. You can't just take a part from that person just because you're my son,” she said.
“Like, that's not cool. We're not doing that. So this is a special opportunity because it's really teeny tiny. And, if you had a big monologue, I wouldn't let him do it. You would have to earn that part because we're not starting that. We're not starting, ‘Oh, you just get handed a bunch of opportunities because you're part of this family.’ Mm-mm, we're not doing that,” she added.
Biel and Timberlake have worked hard to keep Silas and their six-year-old son, Phineas, away from the public eye. However, their elder son's growing ambitions have prompted repeated conversations about the entertainment industry.
Biel said the discussions about their profession were ongoing and evolving as Silas grew older.
“We've talked about [the business we're in] a lot. And it's a constantly evolving conversation, you know?” she said.
The actress also revealed that Silas has a strong interest in music and is already showing talent as a DJ.
“Our son Silas, who's 11 now, who's in the movie (Matchbox) at the end, he's a DJ, he's incredible (at) music, he's doing such cool things with music, he just has that, right? He just has that innately and is interested in that,” she said.
Biel added that her son also has a natural flair for comedy and performance and has increasingly been expressing his desire to become an actor.
