Kundapur, Apr 17: Prabhavati Shenoy (58), wife of Anant Shenoy from Karkala, a resident of Mumbai, who was on a visit to the district to attend her son’s marriage, lost her life at Maravante beach in the taluk, after huge waves which erupted suddenly, dragged her away into the sea on Sunday April 15 evening.

Prabhavati’s son, Srinivas Shenoy, had married on April 8. The newlywed couple was invited for feast in a relative’s home at Maravante. Along the couple, an entourage of relatives had come here to attend feast. After food, a group went to nearby Maravante beach to have fun.

While playing in water, along with Prabhavati, her daughter, Sheela Bhandarkar, and son, Amit, were also washed away. The locals immediately rushed to their rescue, and brought all the three to the shore. Before medical aid could be administered, Prabhavati breathed her last, while Sheela and Amit continue to be treated in a hospital.
