Udupi, May 9: Ganesh Karnik, deputy chairman NRI forum Karnataka and member of legislative council Karnataka and D H Shankarmurthy legislative council chairman together addressed the press to provide information about the upcoming election for legislative council, recently.
Karnik entered the field of politics as a member of the Karnataka legislative council in 2006 under BJP government. He represents the South-west Teachers’ Constituency (which includes Shimoga district, Channagiri and Honnalli taluks of Davanagere district, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Chikmagalur and Kodagu districts of Karnataka). D H Shankarmurthy was elected 4 times as a memeber of legislative council.
Ganesh Karnik appealed the people to vote for his party during the upcoming legislative election. The government around this time has made infrastructure and power sector, IT and BT, education, real estate, automobile sector, and agriculture and its allied products as different themes to attract the electoral votes. The government believes in “development” as the main mantra for reaching out to the rural masses.
Technical and educational institutions have been given high priority in terms of salary hike and solving the water crisis. The election is expected to be on June 10, 2012. The confirmation for the same from the election commission has to be released soon, said D H Shankarmurthy.
This year approximately 39, 000 voters are expected against the turn out of 29,000 previous year.
