Udupi, May 24: The activists of Hindu Jana Jagruti Samiti staged a protest in front of Geethanjali Theater on Wednesday May 23, seeking cancellation of the screening of controversial Sandalwood movie ‘Katariveera Surasundarangi’.

The protesters alleged that Hindu goddesses were poorly depicted in the movie, thereby causing sacrilege. A majority of Hindus worship goddesses in their homes and temples, and it’s a punishable offence to hurt the religious sentiments of the majority of Hindus, alleged the protesters.

The Samiti urged the state administration to discontinue the screening of the controversial and anti-religious movie which is opposed by enlightened religious leaders and heads of worship centers.

B Vijay Kumar, Raghavendra Acharya, Asha, Rama, and Naveen Kumar were present on the occasion.

The screening of the movie was stalled under the leadership of Swami Laxmivarateerta of Shiroor Mutt, a week ago. Movie director Muniratna and hero Upendra had paid a visit to Krishna Mutt and worshipped the temple deity.
