Mumbai, June 26 (IBNS): Union Minister and former Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh on Tuesday will depose before a two-member commission that is investigating the controversial Adarsh Housing Society scam.

Deshmukh's move comes a day after Union Power Minister and ex-Maharashtra Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde deposed before the panel.

Shinde reportedly told the commission that all decisions in connection to the controversial  housing society was taken during the tenure of Deshmukh as the Chief Minister of the state.

Several files were in connection to the case and allotment of land for the housing society were cleared during the tenure of Shinde as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra between 2001 to 2003.

The commission on June 23 had issued notice to Shinde to appear before it on June 25 as a witness in the matter.

Deshmukh had also handled several files connected to the housing society during his tenure as the Chief Minister.

Former Chief Minister of Maharashtra Ashok Chavan will appear before the commission on June 30.

Sucked into the controversy over allotment of flats in the Adarsh Society meant for Kargil War heroes' families to a clutch of bureaucrats and politicians in Mumbai, several politicians, including former Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan, have lost their jobs or are facing probe.

The 30-storey apartment, housing many top level defence officials, was built on a disputed army land at Colaba and it is alleged that the flats meant for the families of the Kargil martyrs were allotted to top defence officials and kins of politicians.
