Srinagar, June 28 (IBNS): Two more people on annual pilgrimage to Amarnath died of cardiac arrest taking the death toll for this year's ongoing yatra to eight, police said on Thursday.

The police said that a body of an unidentified 55-year-old pilgrim was found in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday morning.

Another pilgrim identified as 40-year-old Subash Chand, who was a resident of Punjab, died in Ganderbal district's Baltal base camp on Wednesday.

Around 61,200 pilgrims have visited the cave shrine so far this year.

Nearly 22,810 pilgrims offered prayers at the cave shrine on Wednesday, an official said.

The Amarnath yatra started from June 25 as the first batch of pilgrims set out from the Nunwan base camp in Pahalgam.

Located in Jammu and Kashmir and situated on Mount Amarnath, the Amarnath caves are one of the most famous shrines in Hinduism. Dedicated to the god Shiva, the shrine is said to be over 5,000 years old.
