Udupi: Quarterly Meeting of District Level Review Committee for Banking Held

The quarterly meeting of the district level review committee for banking in Udupi district was held on July 23 at the Zilla Panchayat meeting hall at 11 am under the chairmanship of S A Prabhakar Sharma, chief executive officer, ZP, Udupi.

Subramani R, deputy general manager, Syndicate Bank, regional office, Udupi, declared that the total deposits of the banking sector in the district stood at Rs 10,178 crore registering a year over year growth of 21.00 % and total advances stood at Rs 4966 crore with Year over Year growth of 21.26 % as on March 31. The credit to deposit ratio improved to 49 %.

During the year 2011-12 upto the end of 4th quarter, banks could disburse loans to the extent of Rs.3075.58 crore against the annual target of Rs.2028.6 crore, thus recording 154% achievement.

Rs 1609.85 crore is disbursed to agriculture sector against a target of Rs.568.14 crore, recording 283% achievement.

Rs 346.74 crore is disbursed to tiny and small scale industry sector against a target of Rs. 352.68 crore, the achievement level being 98 %.

Rs 426.52 crore are disbursed to tertiary sector against a target of Rs. 633.73 crore with a 67% achievement level.

Thus the total disbursal to priority sector is Rs.2383.11 crore as against a target of Rs.1554.55 crore up to the end of 4th Quarter, which is 153% achievement.

During 2011-12, Rs.692.47 crore is disbursed against a target of Rs.474.05 crore to non priority sector.

Total credit upliftment in the district for the weaker sections is Rs.923.27 crore (outstanding), covering 82838 beneficiaries, thus reaching a level of 19% against the mandatory level of 10 % of total advances.

This includes Rs.86.05 crore lent to 14231 SC/ST beneficiaries.  As at the end of the review period, 45507 beneficiaries belonging to minority communities have been financially assisted to the extent of Rs473.60 crore (outstanding), which is 13.08 % of the priority sector as against a stipulated level of 15 %.

Further, the number of women financed by banks stood at 130545 with an outstanding amount of Rs 737.42 crore which is 14.85 % of the total advances as against the stipulated level of 5 %. The total amount of education loans was 241.80 crore to 15226 students, of which, Rs 39.80 crore was sanctioned to 2678 students during the year.

Subramani also said that, under the KCC scheme there is an outstanding level of Rs 232.90 crore covering 23962 card holders. He also informed that 19784 SHGs have been credit linked in the district.

Prasad Rao, AGM(DD), NABARD, Mangalore reviewed the implementation of the district credit plan and complimented the bankers for having surpassed the target and advised to adopt suitable strategies from the beginning of the year to achieve the targets under all sectors as envisaged in the credit plan 2012-13.

A Vijaya Kumar, lead district officer, RBI, Bangalore informed the latest instructions/guidelines issued by RBI on various issues related to banking activities. While reviewing the performance of banks in the district, he emphasized the need to achieve various mandatory targets by all the banks.

K Subba Rao, lead district chief manager welcomed the gathering. D Pranesh Rao , deputy secretary, Zilla Panchayat, Udupi also participated in the review meeting.
