London, Aug 11 (IANS/RIA Novosti): Russia's double European champion Dzhamal Otarsultanov won the Olympic gold in the 55 kg category of the freestyle wrestling tournament Friday.
Otarsultanov was made to fight all the way by Georgia's Vladimer Khinchegashvili, who landed what would have been a gold medal-winning point a split second after the bout had ended.
Khinchegashvili's coach had an appeal turned down, costing his wrestler a point that made sure Otarsultanov clinched the gold.
It is Russia's fourth wrestling gold at the 2012 Olympics.
Khinchegashvili's silver was Georgia's fourth medal.
Shinichi Yumoto took the bronze for Japan in the freestyle wrestling's 55 kg category Friday.
Yumoto beat Bulgaria's Radoslav Marinov Velikov in two rounds even though both scored two points each.
Wrestling rules stipulate that the athlete to score last in each round takes it.
Yumoto's twin brother Kenichi took bronze in the 60 kg category in Beijing 2008.
North Korea's Yang Kyong Il took the category's other bronze earlier Friday.
