Mumbai, Aug 27: Konkani Bhasha Mandal Maharashtra in association with Jagotik Konkani Sanghatan had organized a meeting of all the Konkani Associations and clubs of Mumbai to discuss the future course of action and to elect members to the Konkani Bhavan Nirmann Samiti members on August 24 at St Xavier’s Engineering College premises, Mahim.Â
Lawrence D’Souza-Kamani, general secretary of KBMM gave a recap of the meetings held earlier, John D’Silva, president of the Mandal welcomed and briefed the gathering about the actions taken in respect of the Konkani Bhavan, a Konkani Academy in Maharashtra and a drama festival in Mumbai and the meeting he had regarding the Kudds (Clubs of Mangalorean origin in Mumbai) with the Bishop of Mangalore. Â
Albert W D’Souza, vice-president of KBMM explained in detail the efforts being taken in this regard and the meetings with eminent people and political leaders to acquire a piece of land in Mumbai/suburbs. He also briefed about the scheduled future meetings with CM, Maharashtra and Gilbert Mendonca, MLA, Bhayandar.  Â
Then the Konkani Bhavan Nirmann Samiti was formed. Besides the Managing Committee members of Konkani Bhasha Mandal Maharashtra John D’Silva, Albert W. D’Souza, Henry Lobo, Lawrence D’Souza-Kamani, Peter D’Souza, Cyril Castelino, Walter D’Souza, P N Shanbhag, Kenneth Zuzarte (Kenny), Vincent Castelino, Sudhir Kodkani, Alphonse D’Souza, Cyprian Albuquerque, Stany Dias, Victor Concessao, Smt. Benedicta Rebello and Beatrice (Betty Naz) Fernandes, Eric Ozario general secretary, Jagotik Konkani Songhotton and the following members present, representing different Associations of Mumbai were elected to the committee: Francis Olivera Borivli, Stany Saldanha, The Mangalorean Welfare Association., John Sequeira, Konkan Kalakar, Vincent Castelino, Borivli, Carry Fernandes, Maharashtra Konkani Sanstha, Flora D’Souza, Konkan Taram, Ivan Soares, Konani Sabha, Mulund.
The next meeting will be held on October 12 at 6pm at St Xaiver’s Engineering College Hall, 2nd Floor, Mahim, Mumbai.
