Mumbai, Aug 31 (NDTV): Gangster-turned-politician Arun Gawli has been sentenced to life imprisonment for his role in the murder of Shiv Sena politician Kamlakar Jamsandekar four years ago.

Gawli was convicted last week along with 10 others. Jamsandekar was shot dead in March 2008 at his home in suburban Ghatkopar. Gawli was arrested  in May 2008.

According to the chargesheet, a sum of Rs. 30 lakh was paid to the Gawli gang for eliminating the Sena corporator over a land deal.

The once-feared underworld don had told the judge there was no reason for him to kill Jamsandekar for a "paltry" amount of Rs. 30 lakh.

"After 2007 BMC elections, when Shiv Sena was not in majority, it was our Akhil Bhartiya Sena who gave them the support of four corporators (to attain majority). At that time, each of our corporators commanded very high monetary value (for providing support) and there was no reason for me to kill  Jamsandekar for Rs. 30 lakhs,"  Gawli argued.

Hope it will be turn of yeddy/reddy/cheddies in Karnataka and some in the centre too but more importantly in Karnataka. So much drama has been going on and the Judiciary should tighten the rope.
HC Bangalore said in so many days Lokayukta should be installed. after that HC has not brought up the subject. It has failed in its own directions in this matter.
Wake up HC and take the Govt. to ask to instal Lokayuta without delay. Those scamsters.looters of State wealth are enjoying in the absence of Lokayukta.
I wish there is a BLACK HOLE as in the universe, in Karnataka to gobble up all these unwanted/robber/scamsters etc.
It will be peace and developement there after.

    Dear Allen,
Agree with part of what you say with regards to Gawli. As far as politics is concerned the Common man will not indulge as the system is full with Corrupt guy's. The common man would come if the system invited clean people within. Our system of governance is too corrupt, whereby all who do enter any political party are in only for one reason " Make Money " how and from where it comes he is not concerned. Have a look at any Politician in the Country, take his
Graph before he joined the dirty system and compare it with today, his very look will tell you that he is a Rascal with loads of unaccounted wealth of your's and mine. So to sum up my dear friend what has to change is a Hard Core System of accountability by all our Netas.Once that is in place I am for sure you will find people from all communities who will love to serve this great Country. God Bless.

Arun Gawli and his Gandhi topi shows how a criminl can easily one enter into politics and one can rule the criminal world and also the political world too. We in Indian politics always see a nexus in between the both, say a helping hand in help each others activity. A Life sentence to Gawli one can say ' Justice is Done'.
