Amritsar, Sep 2 (Hindustan Times): Amritsari lad Vipul Mehta outshone his Punjabi competitors to emerge as the winner of reality show Indian Idol season six, the grand finale of which was held on Saturday evening.
There were two other Punjab contestants in the race -- Devendra Pal Singh and Amit Kumar. Vipul walked away with a cash prize of Rs. 50 Lakh, a Nissan Micra car, a Suzuki Hayate motorcycle and a contract of a music album with Universal music.
He also won a trophy and three lakh rupees from Max Life insurance.
Actress Kareena Kapoor, who came to the show to promote her upcoming flick 'Heroine' along with director Madhur Bhandarkar, announced the results. Both of them, along with the judges of the show Asha Bhonsle, Salim Merchant, Sunidhi Chauhan and Anu Malik gave away the prize money to Vipul.
Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Ilena D Cruz also came to promote their flick Barfi on the show.
Notably, Vipul has been among the most consistent performers on the show, and was praised by all the judges for his versatility. He was earlier also seen in reality show Voice of India. During the show, he gave wonderful performances on songs like Saada Haq and Chamak Challo.
"The entire family is very happy with his victory, and we want to thank people from India and Amritsar for their support," said Mayank Kapoor, Vipul's brother in law.
His parents Mukesh Mehta and Alka Mehta were on stage with him. His grand father Mahinder Lal Mehta celebrated Vipul's victory with his friends here.
