Maoists Kill Tribal Village Guard in Odisha


Bhubaneswar, Sep 25 (IANS): Maoists Tuesday killed a tribal village guard in Odisha's Malkangiri district, accusing him of being a police informer, police said.

A group of armed rebels allegedly dragged the guard Manik Khilo from his home in Handikhilo and killed him in a nearby area.

The incident came to light after local villagers spotted the dead body and informed the local police, district Superintendent of Police Akhileshwar Singh told IANS citing preliminary information he has received from the region.

Malkangiri district, some 640 km from state capital Bhubaneswar, is considered a Maoist stronghold. Handikhilo is situated on Odisha's border with Andhra Pradesh.
