Mumbai, Oct 23 (PTI): Bollywood as one family flocked to Pawan Hans crematorium, in north-west suburb Vile Parle, to pay their last respects to filmmaker Yash Chopra, who passed away on Sunday evening. His body was consigned to flames amidst presence of family members and close film fraternity personalities.

Earlier, the body of the 80-year-old filmmaker was brought in an ambulance by his family and close friends, including sons Aditya and Uday, accompanied by actors Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan.

On Sunday night, soon after the news of his death started trickling, film industry members thronged Yash Raj Films Studio at Andheri where his body lay in state. The police cordoned off the area to keep the crowd at bay.

One of the first to arrive at the filmmaker's residence at Juhu was actor Dilip Kumar—a close friend of Yash Chopra—along with wife, Saira Banu. Soon, Bollywood celebrities like Anil Kapoor, Madhur Bhandarkar, Sridevi, Boney Kapoor, Kajol, Dimple Kapadia, Rinkie Khanna, Salman Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan accompanied by mother-in-law Jaya Bachchan and others arrived at the residence and YRF Studio.

Chopra, who was working on what he announced was to be his last film, “Jab Tak Hai Jaan,” starring Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anoushka Sharma, was rushed to hospital following a bout of high fever, on October 13. Medical tests revealed that he was suffering from dengue. Though three days ago Chopra showed signs of improvement, on Saturday his condition started deteriorating. He passed away around 5:30 pm at Lilavati Hospital on Sunday following multiple organ failure.

National and Filmfare awards winner several times, Chopra was also bestowed with Dadasaheb Phalke award and Padma Bhushan in a career spanning five decades giving the audiences films in almost all genres. However, he made a mark in toying with themes revolving in the drawing rooms of upper-crust society, exploring dialectically the emotional complexities in man-woman relationship in the prevailing social milieu.
