Moscow Wedding Party Detained Over Shooting

Moscow, Nov 14 (IANS/RIA Novosti): Nine people travelling in a Moscow wedding procession face charges after one of them started firing off a gun, the police said Tuesday.

The wedding party was driving through western Moscow when at least four shots were fired into the air. After the drivers ignored a signal to pull over, the police blocked the road, a police spokesperson told RIA Novosti.

"During a search of one of the cars, the police found two guns, about 50 rounds of ammunition, handcuffs, a flashing light and a baseball bat," the spokesperson said.

A criminal case was opened on hooliganism charges against the suspected shooter, described by police as an Azeri-born 18-year-old man.

The eight others face fines for lesser offenses.

In September, a wedding motorcade caused shock and alarm among the capital's residents when guests started shooting into the air and blocked a road in the city centre. At least 15 people were detained over that incident. They were fined and released.
