Udupi, Dec 3: Kota Srinivas Poojary, minister of ports and muzrai, visited the taluk office to scrutinize the performance of the officials in handling the issues of ration cards. He said that immediate action will be taken to resolve the ration card issues in the district.
 
“Two staffs on contract basis along with two retired tashildars will be appointed and two systems will soon be allotted for the purpose after discussions with the district administrator”, he said.
 
Udupi tashildar Abhijin said that work flow is affected as they are dependent on just three computers, the NIC server with poor internet connectivity.

 
“In the district, totally 1,11,000 lac cards are printed and 83 of them will be printed soon. 26,920 online applications were received, out of which 10,093 were rejected. 12, 343 cards have been issued while 4,323 are pending. In the taluk, 1,656 online applications were received, with 1,200 in city limits.  8,128 cards have been revised”, he said.
 
The minister also enquired the reason for long queues and lack of proper system for issuing tokens although as per the new order most of the ration cards are distributed through the concerned gram panchayat. He said that it is the responsibility of the officials to look after the needs of the public and work for them.
 
He also examined the office registers. Seven officials from the revenue department and two other officials had not registered their attendance. Some of the officials were absent. The minister sought explanation for not signing the attendance registers and the reason for being outside the office during the peak working hours.
