Mangalore, Dec 9: As a part of 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Swami Vivekananda, a state-level symposium was held at St Aloysius College auditorium here on Saturday December 8.
The seminar was organized by Swami Vivekananda 10th Celebration Committee, Dakshina Kannada.
J H Narayan Swami, senior thinker, Hassan inaugurated the programme. Dr Rajendra Udupa, professor at metrology department in NITK Surathkal, Yashawanth Maroli, senior advocate, Ananth Nayak, state president of SFI, Jeevan Raj Kuttar, chief secretary, Razaq Montepadav, association secretary and Nithin Kuttar, treasurer shared the dais.
Addressing the gathering, J H Narayan Swami gave a brief introduction on the life and values taught by Swami Vivekananda. He briefed about the exploitation done to the lower class people by Purohit class who considered themselves to be superior. As said by Swami Vivekananda, they have lost their compassion and due to them, the whole meaning of religion has changed.
“These days, the country faces problems due to religion, due to which the entire community is divided. Religion should not break people instead it should unite them”, he said and asked people to build the nation with three concepts taught by Vivekananda; Charity of Christianity, Equality of Islam and Spirituality of Hindu.
Commenting on the religion, he said these days we find people talking about conversion of religion. This should not take place as no one is born to any religion and every individual has a right to follow any religion of his choice.
“The politicians of our country are dividing the nation through their cruel political nature”, he added and urged people to have a deep thinking and fight against it.
The symposium discussed in-depth about the life and works of Swami Vivekananda and correlated them with the present quest of integrated development, happiness and satisfaction, universal harmony and protecting mother earth.
Dinesh Amin Mattu, senior journalist, Bangalore; Dr Nagappa Gowda, assistant professor, Mangalore University; CH Krishna Shashtri Balila, senior education expert; professor KS Bhagavan, senior rationalist, Mysore; Dr Hayavadan Upadhya, professor Vijaya College, Mulky and Adamaaru Sripathi Acharya, progressive thinker, were present among others.
