Do Not Hang Afzal Guru, says Ambedkar's Grandson

Mumbai, Dec 16 (IANS): Bharipa Bahujan Mahasangh president Prakash Ambedkar Saturday said 2001 parliament attack convict Afzal Guru should not be hanged but sentenced to life imprisonment.

"The government should put the hanging of Guru in abeyance to avoid strengthening separatists in Jammu and Kashmir," Ambedkar, the grandson of Dalit icon B.R. Ambedkar, told IANS over the phone.

"We should understand that we are not ruled by fundamental Hindu nationalists. India is a secular country and it is run by secularists," he said.

Union minister Beni Prasad Verma too had Thursday opposed death penalty to Guru. He later retracted from the statement, saying he was misquoted.

Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde had earlier said a decision on Guru's mercy plea would be taken after the parliament's winter session.

Guru was sentenced to death Dec 18, 2002, by a trial court. The order was upheld by Delhi High Court in 2003. Supreme Court rejected Guru's appeal in 2005.

The fear of congress is strongly embedded in Denesh Poojary's guts, he keeps making any and insane allegation against that party.
He is really turning senile, because of the fear that congress is coming to power soon in Karnataka.
Do not be so afraid. Elections are not over yet and Congress may not win at all.
    Relax boy

Quote: "We should understand that we are not ruled by fundamental Hindu nationalists. India is a secular country and it is run by secularists". Is this the reason for not hanging Afzal? I do not understand the relation between being secular and hanging a outside terrorist! Now few more ministers/activists talk about this and automatically this becomes an national issue for political gains. Same thing happened with Babri masjid issue.

These people are entering into terrorist activities to die. Death is easy for them. Keeping alive with the fear of death is the big punishment for these people.

Why these people are against hanging? Mr. Ambedkar, none of your relatives died in parliament attack. Do we need more attacks? Terrorists should be killed that too they should be hanged in public. We are very soft on terrorists and hence the terror attacks increasing day by day and people like Ambedkar and politicians are not affected by that. Common man is affected by all these terror attacks. Also, India should have strong anti terror laws and there should not be any delay in uting terrorists.
