Mumbai, Dec 16: St Joseph Church parishioners gave a joyful start to Mira-Bhayander Christmas Carol Carnival to celebrate the birth of Jesus here on Saturday December 15. People of different faiths joined in the celebrations.
President of Senior Citizens at St Joseph Church Francis Aruajo, Chai Masti, leader Senorita, president founder of Silver Innings, Sailesh Mishara inaugurated the four-day 'Mira- Bhayandar Christmas Carol Carnival – 2012' at 5.30 pm.
The event was organized by small Christian communities on the theme 'Care for our senior citizens'.
Fr Dominic Vas, parish priest of St Joseph Church, Mira Road spoke about the objectives of staging this event. The event is specially held to spread the message of peace to all the people through music, songs, and dance. All the invited guests expressed their views saying it was an ideal way of celebrating Christmas. They conveyed the message of Christmas and greeted the gathering.
The carnival float led by the Santa Claus chariot followed by three trucks flanked by the Live Crib (enactment of the Nativity scene), speakers of 15,000 watts, choir singers and band and dance performers/pom-pom girls added colour to the carnival. Hundreds of youth danced and sang energetically to the tune of carols.
MLA, Gilbert Mendonca, Vinay Kumar Mandal of Timeless Restaurant, corporator Venture Mendonca, Murphy Rebello and others sponsored the carol singing programme wherein more than 100 volunteers wearing T-shirts entertained the gathering.
Assistant Arthur Martin, Babloo, Augustine compered the carnival.
Over the four days, floats will go to various routes and will halt and perform at main junctions of Mira-Bhayander.
