Jammu, Dec 28 (IANS): The Jammu and Kashmir home department's report for the year 2012 has brought some good news. In the year 2012, the state witnessed the lowest number of terror-related violence since militancy erupted 23 years ago.

The report, released Thursday, revealed that there were 118 terrorist-related incidents in the state in 2012, as against 195 in 2011.

"Of the 118 terrorist incidents, there have been 28 incidents of hurling of grenades, five explosions, 33 incidents of random firing, 44 incidents of cross-firing, two incidents of arson and five arms-snatching cases this year," the report said.

And the report also mentioned the toll that violence had taken in 2012: 95 people, including 23 civilians and 14 security forces personnel, were killed, besides 58 militants.

There were 173 people killed in Jammu and Kashmir last year, including 40 civilians, 33 security troopers and 100 militants.

There were 368 militancy-related incidents in the year 2010, in which 70 security personnel, 45 civilians and 230 militants were killed.

The highest number of about 5,000 militancy-related incidents occurred in the year 1992, in which 870 civilians, 190 security force personnel, and 900 militants were killed.
