Mumbai, Feb 18: Over 500 women of Jerimeri participated in a peace rally held recently under the banner of ‘Jagruti Kendra’ to protest against the gang rape of the 23-year-old medical student last December. Jagruti Kendra, Jerimeri, is a women’s cell fighting for the rights of women and also for justice and peace of the poor and the downtrodden.
The women held placards with various messages and slogans. Fr Nelson Saldanha, trustee, Jagruti Kendra, and parish priest, St Jude’s Church, also participated in this rally and gave an inspiring message to all the women about how they should be alert and oppose such incidents. Sr Seema, founder and director, Jagruti Kendra, thanked all the women for their participation and support and asked them to be strong and courageous.
The rally started from St Jude’s Church heading towards Kajupada, Jerimeri, Kurla-Andheri Road, Safaid Pool, and ended at 90 Feet Road. The entire province of Jerimeri got to see the rally.
Along with Fr Saldanha and Sr Seem, trustee member Flora D'Souza was also on the dais.
