Mangalore, Mar 2: The VHP and Bajrang Dal groups protested in front of the DC Office against the demolition of Shree Rama Setu by the government, here on Friday March 1.
Addressing the protestors, Manohar Thulajaram, president, VHP DK Dist said, "the Central UPA government has filed an affidavit stating that the historical and religious Shree Rama Setu will be demolished for the purpose of water transport. The Rama Setu was built during the period of Ramayana and is a holy place for majority of the people living in the country".
"We strongly protest and request the Central Government to drop proposal and find some other route so that the belief of majority of the people living in this country is protected. Not only the sentiments of the Hindus will be hurt, but a lot of life such as fish, water creatures, other pearls and metals underneath the Rama Setu, including some chemical substances that are dependant its existence will be destroyed, which also is a major loss to the country", he opined.
Speaking on the occasion and explaining the importance of Rama Setu, M B Puranik, Vice President, VHP Karnataka State, said, "this divine Rama Setu was not built a couple of days ago but it has a history of over hundreds of years . As per the Hindu mythology, it is said to have been built during the times of Lord Sri Ram and is a place of worship".
"The Central and the local state governments have come up with the agenda to demolish the Rama Setu. Earlier when the central government raised up this issue, a nationwide protest was held, which also includes a rastha rook in pumpwell circle. The central government had then dropped the plan to demolish the Rama Setu as it received a wide range of protests and objections from around the country", he added.
"Now again the central Government is planning to demolish the Rama Setu and it is also learnt that an affidavit has been filed. If the Central Government does not drop this proposal, the entire Hindu Community will definitely organize protest on a large scale, which will affect the peaceful life of our present society", he warned.
Leaders like Bhujanga Kulal, Jeethendra Kottari, Sharan Pumpwell, Shivananad Mendon, Jagadeesh Shenava and others were present.
