Bangalore: Three polling officers, three voters die
Bangalore, May 6 (DHNS): Three election officials died of cardiac arrest, at different places in the State on Sunday, according to reports from Madhugiri, Haveri and Honnavar.
Thimmaiah, 57, an assistant agriculture officer at the Watershed Development Department in Tiptur, who was deployed as presiding officer at Teriyur polling booth in Madhugiri, suffered a massive heart attack and died at noon.
He complained of severe heart ache when he was on duty and was given first aid. He died on the way to the hospital. In a similar incident in Haveri taluk, a teacher who was deployed as booth officer at Negalur, died of cardiac arrest.
The deceased has been identified as Leelavati Huchchappa (33), a resident of Tumminakatti in Ranebennur taluk and teacher at the Higher Primary School in Kirageri of Hirekerur taluk.
In Kumta Assembly constituency, Kadatoka sector officer M C Mahendra (50) died of cardiac arrest. The principal of the ITI College and native of Tirthahalli, suffered massive heart attack.
Voters’ deaths
Annaiah Nayak (67), of KR Nagar in Mysore district, reportedly died of heart attack, after casting his vote at Doddanasoge village. Similarly, Mahadeva Shetty (37), of Chamarajnagar district, died of heart attack after exercising his franchise at Ramasamudra village. Jayanna (48), died at Sira, Tumkur district, after reportedly consuming hooch supplied by a candidate.
