Bangalore blast - another suspect arrested

Bangalore, May 6: Relating to the incident in which a bomb strapped to a motor cycle went off near the BJP’s central office in Malleshwaram here on April 17, the policemen have succeeded in apprehending another suspect, who reportedly played a crucial role in the blast.

The police investigation unearthed the involvement of Saddam Hussain (25) in the above incident. The police sources said that they subjected him to interrogation after securing his body warrant from the court. Saddam, presently lodged in Salem jail relating to incidents of communal disturbances, is learnt to have extended help to the operation even while being behind the walls of the jail. He was the one who helped the accused to get the motor bike used for the blast through his acquaintances, it is learnt.

During interrogation, Kichen alias Buhari (38), who is already in police custody relating to the blast, revealed the involvement of Saddam in the blast. Sources said that Buhari and Saddam are relatives, and Saddam took the responsibility of providing facility for the bomb blast as per the directions of Buhari. The police have further found out that Valayil Hakim and Asgar Ali, who were recently arrested, had provided ammonium nitrate and other chemicals used in the blast.

Senior police officers, however, continue to be tight-lipped about the outcome of investigations. They say that it would not be in the interests of the investigation to reveal the findings before the conclusion of the entire process. They said all the details would be made public after the conclusion of the investigation.
