Mangalore, Jan 6: A time for inventions, discoveries to be brought to the fore. Young Explorer, an inter-school Science Model Competition for CBSE schools of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada and state schools of Mangalore City hosted by Bala Gangadharanath Swamiji Education Centre, Kavoor, brought under one roof total of 15 school.
The budding scientists and inventors of tomorrow could be seen working diligently towards presenting their inventions and social concern was evident in every model.
While a majority of the models were on non-conventional energy like the solar energy and wind energy, recycling and solid waste management were also prominent.
The model of the electro magnetic train prepared by Canara High School, Dongerkery was much appreciated.
Sri Siddinivinayaka Residential School, Hattiangady presented a model on wind energy and St Aloysius School, Urva had a working model of a nuclear reactor. Green Valley School, Shiroor presented recycling of wastewater, non-conventional energy resource, drip irrigation and solar cooker models, while Presidency School, Bikarnakatte had a battery-operated elevator. Students of Lourdes Central School, Mangalore made a twilight switch for conservation of energy at night and also a model on rainwater harvesting.
SMS English Medium School, Brahmavar presented the process of transformation of electrical energy to sound energy through a circuit diagram of radio set. Padua High School whose model was on sources of energy also demonstrated the production, usage and conservation of energy.
Tech-savvy Noble High School, Kunjathbail had a model of a Burglar Alarm, while Green Park School, Udupi presented a model on form and diversity in environment. Students of St Agnes Girls High School, Mangalore, prepared a solar opto project.
MRPL School and Little Rock Indian School, Brahmavar had models on fast food v/s fresh food, importance of fruits and vegetables and food heath and nutrition.
St Theresa's School, Bendore presented a model on inventions and destruction of earth, while Vidyodaya Public School, Kaup and Canara High School had models of rainwater harvesting and energy conversion respectively.
