Mangalore, Jan 6: President of DK Madarasa Managements Association, T Hussein has stated that Maulvi Basheer who was arrested in Chennai, does not belong to any of the mosques in Dakshina Kannada. He added that no maulvi from the district has been arrested.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that Basheer had visited the city a couple of times.

In the wake of notices issued by the police to all the madarasas, a high-level meeting of Muslim leaders including office bearers of Dakshina Kannada district madarasas management associations, was held under the chairmanship of K S M Masood, chairman of State Minorities Commission on Thursday December 29.

The notice sought details like the names of office bearers, addresses, numbers of students and names of teachers, source of income and whether they receive foreign aid.

However, it was decided at the meeting to extend the deadline by three days from Friday January 6 noon, for submitting the details.
