Mangalore, Jan 7: Total chaos prevailed during the special KUIDFC sub-committee meeting convened by mayor on Friday. Enraged corporators staged a walk out, being disappointed by the mayor's stand and of the KUIDFC officials.
The meeting was attended by KUDCEMP deputy project director (DPD), J R Lobo, MLAs Yogish Bhat and B Nagaraj Shetty and MP Manorama Madhwaraj.
Before the agenda of the meeting was announced, corporators Mahabala Marla (Padavu) and K Divakar (Kadri) sought to have solutions to the issues discussed in the previous meeting. However, Divakar, who initiated the debate, wanted to know about the utilisation of funds. He was joined by Marla, who questioned whether the amount of the project has been increased from Rs 306 cr.
Replying to his queries, DPD, J R Lobo said out of the Rs 306-crore project, 60 per cent constituted the loan amount and 40 per cent of aid. Besides this, Rs 60 cr had been allotted for land acquisition, he informed. Though, at present, the project needed only Rs 290 cr, it would not go beyond Rs 306 cr, he assured.
Meanwhile, irked by the report submitted by Cristel, both the corporators blamed the officials for giving wrong report. Even DPD Lobo agreed that report was not appropriate. At this, Marla said thanks to opposition by the corporators, the approval of the report had been deferred.
The members wanted to know how the packages could be renewed without getting nod from MCC or by the KUDIFC. Bantwal MLA, B Nagaraj Shetty, who was present at the meeting sought to know whether the pay given to the KUIDFC officials comprise in funds allotted to the project, for which the officer denied.
