Karkala, Jan 9: Unpredictability is the mantra of modern times. Here no one can predict about anything at anytime. Perhaps this is the reason why the seers and astrologers have lost their ground these days since their predictions often go awry at the very next moment. This unpredictability proved very true on Sunday January 8 evening in the taluk as the sudden yet torrential rains caught people unawares.
Blatantly speaking no one was prepared for the rain neither anyone was expecting rains at this time of the year. Except a few women and retired men who carry umbrella in all seasons, rest all had the opportunity for a street bath. At the same time some pedestrians had to endure the mire bath too as buses and other vehicles flew past them painting their dress with mire and rainy water.
However, sudden rains proved timely in bringing down the heat, which was slowly catching grounds for another hot summer in 2006.
Rains in Udupi - Manipal area
While the temple city Udupi was getting ready of the annual Paryaya Utsav, cool showers in the city as well as in the areas of Manipal took everyone by surprise. The heavy downpour late on Sunday night in Moodbelle, Kaup, Padubidri, Pernal, Moodbelle and other surrounding areas brought to one's mind the vivid memories of typical monsoon day in the coastal town. The rains coupled with thunder and lighting however, resulted in failure of electricity in many areas.
