Karkala, Jan 17: Catholic Sabha, Miyar unit had organized a "Sairik Sammel" (Match-making Meet) at St Dominic Diamond Jubilee Hall at Miyar on Sunday January 17.
A total of 240 participants had partaken in the meet out of which 122 were prospective brides and bridegrooms. Fr Vincent Victor Menezes, parish priest, St Dominic Church, Miyar inaugurated the meet. Herman Castelino, president, Catholic Sabha, Karkala deanery, John D'Souza, vice president of the parish council, George Castelino, Nakre, Joachim Pinto, Peter Jerry Rodrigues, former president of Catholic Sabha, were also present on the occasion.
Ida Cornelio was the resource person, while Leo Pereira sponsored the "Sairik Sammel.' The programme began at 10 am. As per the schedule the prospective bride and grooms filled the forms and submitted them to the concerned persons. After the lunch, the details of the forms were read out without making known the names of the applicants. The details such as age, qualification, profession, height etc were read out. Each applicant was given a code. Among the prospective brides and grooms, those who felt that a particular applicant would suit their requirements, wrote down the particular code.
Once the details of all the applicants were read out, those who sought alliance from a particular applicant were met. A total of 7 proposals were fixed on the spot with the consent and meeting of bride and the bridegroom. Later speaking to the Daijiworld, Miyar Catholic Sabha president Vinup D'Souza said that they had received 8 more applications on Monday January 16. He added that the process will go on and those who wish to get more details can contact the Catholic Sabha, Miyar unit.
About 120 applications are said to be already registered. A sponsor's generosity has enabled the organizers to set up an office where enquiries can be made. The details will be retained in a files. When serious enquiries are received, candidates could meet each other under the organizers' guidance and counselling.
Vinup D'Souza welcomed the gathering and Alice D'Souza proposed the voted of thanks. Daniel Renjar and Elcy D'Souza compered the entire meet.
