Washington, Jul 6 (IANS/WAM): A delegation of women from the UAE government, business and media recently visited Washington D.C. and New York City and met their peers in the US government to address common challenges in women's issues.
The women led by Amal Al Qubaisi, first deputy speaker of the UAE Federal National Council, also took part in the annual Executive Board meeting of UN-Women.
During their visit, the Emirati delegation shared their experiences as women leaders working in a variety of sectors, and highlighted the UAE's initiatives that promote women's empowerment and equality.
The group met senior officials at the US Department of State, the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security, the United States Institute of Peace, Middle East Institute, and Center for American Progress.
They also met officials of the UAE mission to the UN and UN-Women at the United Nations headquarters.
In New York, the delegation visited the office of Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and met officials at Partnerships for New York City and 85 Broads, a global women's network, and the New York University-Abu Dhabi.
