Randy Travis stable post surgery

Los Angeles, Jul 17 (IANS): Country music singer Randy Travis's condition is stable after a crucial surgery, his doctor said via a video conference. However, he will reportedly take months to recover.

Travis "is awake and alert and interacting with his family and friends and beginning to start doing some early physical therapy," said his doctor Gary Erwin, reports contactmusic.com.

The 54-year-old was admitted to the Heart Hospital Baylor Plano, Texas, July 7 following a stroke. The surgery was intended to relieve pressure on his brain.

He was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, which means his heart struggles to pump sufficient blood around the body. This condition can lead to congestive heart failure, which happened in Travis's case.

Travis's condition was aggravated as he suffered a viral infection for three weeks before he was admitted to the hospital.
