Mangalore, Jul 20: Bollywood romantic movie 'Ramaiya Vastavaiya', reportedly a remake of 1989 'Maine Pyar Kiya' has managed to grab moderate collection at the box office on day one of release, that is Thursday, July 19.

The initial reports coming from single screen says that theatres went full house on afternoon and evening shows, but response in the morning was not so encouraging. Still, end of the day, Rs 8 crore was not a bad collection at the box office, says experts.

The movie is running average outside India, specially in the Middle East. In most of the multilpexes in the UAE and other Gulf countries, morning shows went empty but evening shows had good collection. Experts says this may be due to Ramadan and not because of the movie itself.

'Ramaiya Vastavaiya' is directed by south Indian star, Bollywood actor, choreographer and director Prabhudheva. The movie is produced by Kumar Taurani. Taurani’s son Girish Kumar, the lead actor, makes his debut in Bollywood with this movie. He stars against Shruti Hassan. The other star cast of the movie include Sonu Sood, Poonam Dhillon, Satish Shah and Randhir Kapoor.

The initial feedback says Maine Pyar Kiya was much better compared to Ramaiya Vastavaiya. Salman Khan and Bhagyashree as lead roles in Maine Pyar Kiya excelled in every aspect over Girish Kumar and Shruthi Hasan. Girish Kumar has performed well in the movie, and though initially he seemed to be overacting, he managed well later on. Shruthi kept up her tempo well througout the movie.

Girish Kumar, in his debut movie has done a fair job, but as the movie has just released, one must wait and watch how the audience accept Shruthi, who is the more experienced of the two. Many feel, Girish Kumar can be another Akshay Kumar in Bollywood and his father too hopes to see his son become a star.

Film critic Paloma Sharma said, “Just in case you walk in late and miss the credits in the beginning, fear not -- it becomes pretty evident as the film progresses that this is a vanity project for Girish Kumar. However, it is a relief that Kumar does manage to deliver almost 2.5 hours of solid entertainment. Although his character in the film is completely unrealistic, Kumar keeps it as real as he possibly can.”
