Duchess of Cambridge gives birth to a boy

London, Jul 23 (IANS): Duchess of Cambridge Kate gave birth to a boy Monday evening, palace officials said.

The baby, weighing 3.8 kg, was born at 4.24 p.m., Xinhua cited sources with the Kensington Palace as saying.

Already more than a week past her due date, the 31-year-old Kate was taken to the St. Mary's Hospital in Paddington around 6 a.m. Monday. Her husband Prince William was with her during the delivery.

The baby is now third in line to the British throne. This is the first time in 119 years that there have been three generations waiting in succession to the throne.

"Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well and will remain in hospital overnight," said the palace in a statement.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman said the queen and Duke of Edinburgh are delighted at the news that Kate has given birth to a son.

The Prince of Wales said he was "enormously proud and happy to be a grandfather for the first time", and added that it was "an incredibly special moment for William and Catherine".

Speaking outside 10 Downing Street, British Prime Minister David Cameron described the birth as "an important moment in the life of our nation".

"It has been a remarkable few years for our royal family - a royal wedding that captured people's hearts, that extraordinary and magnificent jubilee and now this royal birth - all from a family that has given this nation so much incredible service," he said.

As a tradition, an official notice of birth has been placed outside the Buckingham Palace.

Outside St. Mary's Hospital many royal fans had camped for two weeks along with photographers from around the world. They waved national flags and sang "Happy Birthday to You" aloud for the new royal baby.

Terry Hutt, a 78-year-old from Cambridge camped for 12 days. "This is my longest experience to camp," he said. "But it is lovely to be around. I am glad to see it is a healthy baby."

Teba Diatta, 31, made a cake for the occasion, on which she wrote: "Come on Kate, we can't wait. Give us something to celebrate."

She told Xinhua she made the cake just for fun, which she shared with reporters later. "It is not easy for them," she said.

Even tourists joined in the revelry. Miriam, a 62-year-old from Italy, said: "I am travelling in London while my sister told me 'Kate is in labour'. So I came here immediately."

When she realised that she left her camera in the hotel, Miriam bought a disposable one. "I will make a special album for the royal baby," she beamed.

There will be a 41-gun salute at London's Hyde Park and 62 rounds fired at the Tower of London later Tuesday to herald news of the birth.

Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, was born in the same hospital in 1982, as well as his brother Prince Harry.

William and Kate held a spectacular wedding at Westminster Abbey in April 2011. Kate was confirmed as pregnant last December.

Though the Duchess being the royal family member, still she remains in the hospital for a minimum period.
Unlike our Bachchan family, they did not hide their baby from the public.
Our elite should learn a lesson or two from this royal family.

It is true that the British Raj ruled India over years and looted our treasures. Also the blood shed by our freedom fighters. However, we should not forget that they also gave us some of the good things like railway, bridges (which are still present unlike built by Indian politician), postal service, hospitals etc. they have also done good works in our society which even our Indian politicans are not able to do even after getting the freedom. Foreigners looted us, how about our own so called Indian politicians? dont they loot us? The fact is, Princes is born, let us wish Gods blessing on him.

Any compulsions to support U.K.? Sister in law's cousin's cousin's aunty's first cousin or somebody is from U.K.? O.K. No problem! Have we got anything against U.K.? No!-I will gladly have a date or two with any English Lady if she is willing!
Lady Diana-I used to go ga ga over her like everybody else! But however it does not mean that I do not believe that the British robbed us of all our wealth and padraad!Whatever richness they have now is because of us! rulers of one or two colonies have now become super powers because of 'robbing' abilities of their ancestors! That is all we want to say.
Times have changed but then 'History' can never been changed!
What Iddi Amin and all? Like that British also are dependent on us now..O.K? We can also kick back if we want...but unfortunately our rulers are interested only in kickbacks...! Mai-Kaalen tumhee? People also fly happily to India-nowadys...isn't it a fact?

Queen Elizabeth II is head of the State UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and many small countries in West Indies.

As per you opinion if Brits wants get rid of Royalty then, Country has to d Republic, but appoint President as Head of State ( Like in India ).

Tears rolled reading the article and not because Baby boy is born.Fans camped for 2 weeks along with photographers from around the world, waved flags, sang happy birthday,A Sc camped for 12 days, somebody prepared the cake,a tourist joined,A lady in order to make an album bought a disposable one.All this was heart touching. We would have heard of stone pelting, lathi charge, tear gas, sacrifice of innocents lives and a no. of negative comments as we read every day. This is the defference. let us learn to be more cultured.

    Ceraj and team,
I am desperately hunting for an answer, inspite of all this why Indians still run to UK.To get back the stolen wealth? I am sure one or the other person of your family is settled in UK.Wherever I meet people I hear them proudly saying that their son or daughter is settled in UK and doing well. I see many of the parents who always keep complaining about their health, happily fly to UK.as tho they are in their teens. Just take a statistics of the Indians enjoying the wealth in UK. The no. of temples, Gurudwaras that exists in UK.The posts the Indians enjoy.
If at all, these people are kicked back as done by Iddi Amin of Uganda years back what would be the fate.
