Bangalore, Jan 24: As Singapore is the Gateway to the South Asian market, businessmen travelling to the city might worry about the steep airfares.

Now they can rest easy as travelling to Singapore will be as cheap as flying to Hyderabad. Starting this week, Jetstar Asia, the airline company from Singapore, will slash the cost of a ticket to Rs 6,000, making it the most competitive airline fare to Singapore.

Jetstar Acting CEO Neil Thompson said his company was the first value- for-money carrier to connect Bangalore with South Asia.

“We are focusing on small entrepreneurs, as business and tourist travel to Singapore is growing at a fast pace. By offering quality travel at such a low cost, we will be able to take a major share of the market.

“Like in any other low-cost airline, hot food, snacks, beverages and duty free items can be purchased on board,” he said.

Thompson said the sales point in the city would be the ‘Bird Group’.

“The Bird Group is a leading brand in the Indian travel and tourism industry. They could offer their expertise in taking our brand to the people,” he said.

The airline will commence non-stop A320 services between Bangalore and Singapore five times week.

“There will be a flight on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Details can be obtained at the Jetstar office on Church Street,” Thompson said.

Bird Group Executive Ankur Bhatia said the advent of low-cost airlines had redefined air travel.

“We are eager to take on the challenge and are confident that with Jetstar Asia, the Indian traveller will now have an affordable option to fly to Singapore,” he said.
