New Delhi, Jan 26: Noted filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Gandhian Nirmala Deshpande and architect Charles Correa were among nine people on Wednesday awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India's second highest civilian honour.

IT czar Nandan Nilekani, industry lobbyist Tarun Das, educationist Lokesh Chandra, musician Ustad Sabri Khan and actor A.K. Hangal were among the 36 people conferred the Padma Bhushan, the country's third highest civilian award.

Sixty-one people were conferred the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian awards. A total of 106 Padma awards have been conferred this year. The awards are traditionally announced on the eve of the Republic Day.
