Mumbai, Aug 5: “When I migrated to the metro in my early childhood, I was eager to study, but did not get admission. I joined a night high school and became a graduate. Those who studied became entrepreneurs, while others remained as employees,” said Karnataka Rajyotsava Award recipient and LIC professional Dr R K Shetty.
“I am convinced that knowledge is power and that can enable one to achieve significance in life. One can even become President, PM, scientist, etc. One can carve better future out of will power. The philanthropy is the greatest humanitarian deed with that the new generation can be empowered to build stronger India,” said Karnataka Rajyotsava Award recipient and LIC professional Dr R K Shetty.
Dr Shetty was speaking during the annual distribution of scholarship programme that was organized by the education subcommittee of metro based Billawar association, for the benefit of poor students of the society, here on Saturday August 3.
The metro-based Devadiga Sangh president Hiriyadka Mohandas was the guest of honour present.
Billawar Association president LV Amin presided over the programme.
The association vice presidents M B Kukian, C T Salian, Chandrashekar S Poojary and Bhaskar M Salian, treasurer Bhaskar V.Bangera, women wing president Shakuntala K. Kotian and others were present on the dais. The scholarship for students was distributed on the occasion.
The association president Jaya C Suvarna, after inaugurating the programme, said that the association has been distributing scholarships worth about Rs 75 lac annually. Their key objective is to help the students to pursue higher studies.
Speaking on the occasion, Hiriyadka Mohandas said that Billawa community is the role model for different communities in the society, because of their yeomen service in helping the students to excel in studies, said Mohandas. He also urged the beneficiaries to help others as they were helped in their life to excel, urged Mohandas.
LVAmin, in his presidential address, said that societal progress is their aim, because if the youth are educated; it will bring about reform in the society.
Latish Mohandas Poojary rendered the prayers. The education subcommittee president Bhaskar M Salian welcomed the gathering. The secretary Dhananjay S.Kotian introduced the guests. The secretary of the association Jyoti K Suvarna compered the programme. Harish G Salian proposed vote of thanks. M Anand Poojary, Vishwanat Tonse and Satish Poojary read the names of beneficiaries.
