Govt makes amends, blames Pak Army for LoC killings

New Delhi, Aug 8 (PTI) : After triggering huge furore, Government today made amends by blaming Pakistan Army for the killing of five Indian soldiers and said the incident will have consequences on India's behaviour on the Line of Control and ties with Pakistan.

Defence Minister A K Antony asserted in Parliament that India's restraint should not be taken for granted nor should the capacity of its armed forces and government's resolve to uphold the sanctity of the LoC be doubted.

Antony, who faced BJP fury for the last two days, made a fresh statement in both Houses, saying his earlier contention about the involvement of "terrorists along with persons dressed in Pakistan Army uniform" was based on information available at that time.

Since then the Chief of Army Staff has visited the area and gone into the details of the matter, he said.

"It is now clear that specialist troops of the Pakistan Army were involved in the attack when a group from Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) side crossed the LoC and killed our brave jawans," he said in the statement aimed at controlling damage done by the earlier version.

"We all know that nothing happens from Pakistan side of LoC without support, assistance, facilitation and often, direct involvement of Pakistan Army," Antony said.
In the Lok Sabha, Leader of the Opposition Sushma Swaraj said her party was happy that the Defence Minister has "accepted his mistake" and rectified it.

BJP had been targeting Antony alleging that he had given clean chit to Pakistan Army and should apologise. The main opposition party paralysed Parliament for the last two days.

I find it extremely distressing to watch the whole drama.
    1. Some one from across the border attacked our armymen and killed 5 of them. How any one can know whether they were regular Pak armymen, Pak's special army team or terrorists trained by Pakis. The whole drama telling first that they were terrorists, then terrorists in army dress and finally that they are indeed army people is just absurd.
    2. Simply state that Pakis attacked and killed our Jawans. Do we care if they are Paki army or Paki citizens?
    3. Normal terrorist acts do not happen in border but deep inside the land. So to call it as a terrorist activity is again absurd.
    4. I suspect that as happened in the past, terrorists are pushed inside India under the cover of gun fire by Paki army - and this must have happpened now also.

I can't understand why our politicians lose common sense once they take responsible positions. This applies to all parties.

Finally, our media should not drum up the issues for the sake of TRPs.

Mr.Anthony has a real point. Pakistan has cea sed to exist as a normal country, Army and ISI are not in elected governments control, America routinely sents drones for attack no self respecting country will allow that. All leading terrorist organisations have head quarters and training on their land. And Army ISI Terrorist organisation have different interests which may be diametrically opposite of the elected government.
In this back knee jerk reactios will only help the forces which do not want peace between the countries. We have to resort to only international pressure diplamacy and covert warfare exactly like the one followed by our enemy. The situation is much more treachurous and dirty . One thing is sure we can not deal with pakistan as one country!

The modern day INC has become a mouthpiece for Pakistani ISI. We have no chance in hell to deal with Pakis when our leaders cannot even do lip-service to our martyrs. It is time the armed forces of India to act independently and take decisions that are in the best interest of our nation. Because they will never get a approval to retaliate from our gutless leadership, and i dont even remember when was the last time our PM opened his mouth on any subject.

He does not speak much. But when he opens mouth, first thing is to taunt advani that he can only dream to become PM. I never saw him talking sensibly to dignity of this nation. I somehow feel he may outsmart even Devegoda as wrst PM

I vote for congress and have been a supporter of congress. But coming to a point where I cant stand this government anymore. MMS is too humble to be strong PM and this government is too corrupt to lead the nation. High time for a change.

"It took nearly 48 hours for our defense minister to confirm that Pakistan killed Indian soldiers. I wonder how long will it take to retaliate and finish the business once and for all !!"
