Sex determination is redundant: Shah Rukh Khan

Mumbai, Aug 9 (IANS): Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who was caught in the controversy over the pre-birth sex determination of his surrogate son AbRam, Friday said the practise itself is "redundant".

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) had slammed the actor over reports that he and his wife Gauri Khan had got a sex determination test for the baby. However, Shah Rukh had denied any such activity via an official statement in July, when he had confirmed the birth of the baby.

"Sex determination is redundant," Shah Rukh said at a press conference at his residence here to celebrate Eid.

He said he has been trying to cover up all such controversies in his life with happy moments.

"I am trying to cover all that up with happy moments. My son is born and Inshallah, he will be well. Being in the public eye is a part and parcel of life, we will go on doing it. Sex determination is redundant. I don't know how the lawyers will deal with it (case). I hope I am not called often," Shah Rukh told the media

The actor said that his newborn baby makes him very happy.

"He is very small right now. We request him to pray for the health of the family as he is closest to god. It is a fact that I am happy because of him," said the actor, whose film "Chennai Express" also released Friday.
