Indian, Chinese troops exchange beer, rasgullas after face-off

New Delhi, Aug 9, 2013 (PTI): Indian and Chinese troops had a face-off in Sikkim earlier this week which, however, ended in a friendly exchange of beer and rasgullas.

The face-off happened near the Tangkar La pass at the height of over 16,000 feet in eastern Sikkim after a Chinese patrol entered into territory claimed by India, sources told PTI here.

The Chinese patrol, which was travelling in two light vehicles, was monitored by the Indian team comprising a young Lieutenant and nine jawans there, they said.

The Indian patrol intercepted the Chinese patrol at the Tangkar La pass and after that, they showed banners to each other asking to leave the area and go back into their respective territories.

At the time of parting, the Chinese troops presented cans of Budweiser beer to the Indian patrol while our troops gifted them a pack of rasgullas, they said.

In the recent past, there have been a spate of incursions from the Chinese side into the Indian territory all along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) between the two sides stretching from Ladakh in Jammu and Kashmir in north to Arunachal Pradesh in the northeast.

On the transgressions by Chinese troops, Defence Minister A K Antony had recently said that "there is no commonly delineated Line of Actual Control (LAC) between India and China. There are areas along the border where India and China have different perceptions of the LAC and both sides undertake patrols up to their respective positions there."

"On account of differences in perception of LAC, certain transgression incidents do take place on ground. Government regularly takes up any transgression with the Chinese side through established mechanisms," he had said.

    Dear Mr. Gerald,
In India some people may corrupt, selfish, jealous and ego minded. For that please don't blame to all Indians. First learn to love and respect our country. Then all pictures will clear automatically. There is no doubt that in China they entertain all their customers and business friends at very high level and they make you feel great. But actually they think that India is their biggest competitor and not likes Indians in general. When you are in China please go through Chinese TV news / news papers some time. Normally you may not get positive news about India. Yes I agree that in China many things are better than India. But there also ill mannered peoples are there. For that lets don't blame china also.
Lets feel great for our country and our culture. In next election try to elect better candidates without looking into party and religion. We can also develop our India better than China.

Dear Gerald / Francis / Pereira,

You are very wrongly mixing Civil and Military situations which are TOTALLY different and fully agree with Geoffrey's views.

This just goes to prove, as guess in 1962 when Nehru was busy saying at Delhi " Hindi Chini Bhai Bhai " which means India and China are like brothers...the Chinese army was busy blundering our borders. - The Indo - China war of 1962.

So no matter what said and done a not so friendly neighbour should ALWAYS be handled with utmost care and caution.

    Kind Regards

    Brother Pereira,
I am touched by your comments.
What you are writing is 100% truthful.
Though I nay not agree that all Indians are aggressive I take your point of view in the right spirit.
Point of the matter is ordinary Chinese or ordinary Indian is a good soul and helping human being always.
Same can be true for some Pakis too but the numbers may be in minority.

    Dear readers!
I was posted at Shenzhen, China a few years back on a special assignment.
The best beer they have is named Tsingtao. By nature, the Chinese people are mild and not aggressive like Indians. They are very helpful and are very good by nature. You can walk into any home by mistake there and they welcome you, take care and make sure that you reach home safely.I just loved my 2 years posting in China.
Please do not believe whatever you hear in the media.
I had the best time of my life in China - please believe me.
I do not know what is happening between India and China but am sure that it can be sorted out diplomatically.

There's a difference between civilian posting and military posting on the border. Forget India, if the superpower US of A is wary of one nation on this planet is, it's ROC. Besides being biggest trade partner of US, Chinese defense is equipped with thermonuclear weapons and ICBMs.
