Washington, Aug 10 (IANS): U.S. President Barack Obama has ruled out his country's athletes will boycotting the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics in Russia.
The boycott suggestion came after Russia passed an anti-gay law, reports Xinhua.
"I do not think it's appropriate to boycott the Olympics. We' ve got a bunch of Americans who are training hard, who are doing everything they can to succeed," said Obama Friday. "Nobody's more offended than me by some of the anti-gay and anti-lesbian legislation that we've been seeing in Russia."
Obama said he hoped a gay athlete would take home a medal.
The 2014 Winter Olympics would start in February in Sochi.
