Mangalore, Feb 4: Mathrudesham, a Malayalam evening daily, will be launched on Monday here at Motimahal Conference Hall on February 6.
Addressing the presspersons on the new enterprise, proprietor and editor of the newspaper U K Yusef revealed that a survey conducted recently showed that there were more than one lac Malayalis dwelling in Dakshina Kannada district and there has been no reliable newspaper for them to know about what was happening in their homeland.
In order to bridge this gap and to inform them about the various happenings in the district as well as in Kerala in Malayalam language Mathrudesham will be launched.
In the first phase of publication, Dakshina Kannada, Kasargod and Kannur would be covered. However it will be extended to Udupi district in the later stages.
The newspaper would also be sent to Mumbai and Middle East countries, Yusef said.
Former Kerala Minister Cherkalam Abdulla will launch the newspaper and former minister Ramanath Rai will preside over the programme. District Collector Mihaj Halam and P A Engineering College Chairman Dr P A Ebrahim will be the chief guest.
