Menkov wins men's long jump

Moscow, Aug 17 (IANS): Russia's Aleksandr Menkov claimed the title of men's long jump with a mark of 8.56 metres at 2013 IAAF World Championships here.

The 22-year-old Russian went out to 8.52 in the third round to renew the world leading mark of 8.46 set by Mexico's Luis Rivera at the Kazan University Games last month. He went on to set the winning mark in the fifth round to better the world record again, reports Xinhua.

Dutchman Ignisious Gaisah took the silver at 8.29m while Rivera settled for the bronze medal with a lackluster 8.27m.
