Bihar: 27 people perish under the wheels of Rajya Rani Express train

Media Release

Bihar, Aug 20: In a tragic mishap that occurred in Bihar’s Dhamaraghat Railway station limits, 27 people walking on the railway tracks have said to have perished by coming under Rajya Rani Express that was passing through the railway station at 8.40 am on August 19.

The people who died belong to the Kanvaris tribe in Bihar. Neglect of safety precautions and rules and regulations of the railways are blamed for the tragedy.

The people around the train have manhandled the driver and burnt a portion of the train in anguish after the accident.  They also made the railway staff to stop Madhepur- Samattipur trains at Dharmaraghat.

"It is impossible to stop a train all of a sudden.  It stops only after moving 200 to 300 meters after applying brakes.  As the deaths have occurred due to the audacity of the people, no compensation should be paid to them.  It should be a lesson to the rule breakers," said the officials.
