Motion moved to suspend 11 anti-Telangana MPs

New Delhi, Aug 22 (IANS): The Lok Sabha was disrupted Thursday after the government moved for suspension of 11 members who have been protesting against the creation of Telangana state out of Andhra Pradesh.

The motion to this effect demanded suspension of seven Congress and four Telugu Desam Party (TDP) members.

This led to protests by members from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), Left parties and Trinamool Congress, among others.

Amidst commotion, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar adjourned the house till 12:45 p.m.

Telangana is to be carved out of Andhra Pradesh, and the decision has triggered protests in Rayalseema and coastal Andhra regions of the southern state.

The Congress Tuesday appealed to the four TDP members, who disrupted the Lok Sabha over the Telangana issue, to cooperate so that the house could debate and pass the food security bill.

The house could not function even after an all-party meet agreed to run it as the four TDP MPs continued disrupting the house over the proposed creation of Telangana.
