Udupi, Feb 9: Bharat Kumar Nayak (41), who was killed in a bomb blast in Afghanistan on Tuesday, was a civil engineer hailing from Thekkatte, near Kundapur.

Sources close to the family said here on Wednesday that he was the eldest son of K.V. Nayak, a former lecturer of Thekkatte Junior College.

Bharat did his civil engineering course at M.S. Ramaiah College, Bangalore. He joined a construction company in Delhi, which sent him to Afghanistan about two years ago.

Bharat visited his family about a year ago. He was expected to come down recently as his father underwent a heart surgery. He is survived by his wife and son who stay in Mumbai.

The body is expected to be flown in on Thursday to Mumbai, where the cremation is likely to be take place.
