70 arrest warrants issued against VHP leaders over yatra

Faizabad/Lucknow, Aug 23 (PTI): With VHP adamant in going ahead with its planned yatra from Ayodhya from Sunday, the Faizabad district administration today issued arrest warrants against its 70 leaders amid heavy deployment of police force in the twin towns.

Ashok Singhal, Pravin Togadia and Ram Vilas Vedanti were among the leaders against whom the warrants were issued, Faizabad district magistrate Vipin Kumar Dwivedi told reporters in Faizabad. The yatra has been banned by the Uttar Pradesh government over possible communal flareup.

According to police sources, 20 VHP activists have been nabbed while some senior leaders including Vedanti have gone underground.

The Uttar Pradesh government also sought help from neighbouring states in intelligence-sharing on the movement of activists of the saffron outfit.

"Neighbouring states have been asked for intelligence sharing in wake of the proposed 84 kosi yatra of VHP on August 25," R K Vishwakarma, IG, Law and Order told reporters in Lucknow.    The district administration is expecting about 40,000-50,000 VHP activists to take part in the 84-kosi Parikrama yatra.

In Faizabad, about a dozen police teams are conducting regular raids on various hideouts of VHP leaders, Dwivedi said, adding, the district administration did not allow Singhal to proceed to Ayodhya while he was coming from Allahabad.

He said adequate security force has been deployed in the twin towns of Ayodhya-Faizabad.

Asked if the borders of the district would be sealed, Vishwakarma said a decision would be taken depending on the situation but for now anyone can visit the city. "Only those going for the yatra will be stopped," he said, but did not elaborate how they would identify such people.

Vishwakarma said besides 13 companies of PAC and three company of RAF, two Superintendent of Police (SP), 19 Additional SPs, 42 Deputy SPs, 135 inspectors, 430 sub inspectors and 1,300 constables have been deployed in Faizabad.

The yatra has six districts in its route-- Faizabad, Basti, Barabanki, Gonda, Bahraich and Ambedkar Nagar.

Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav met legislators of Faizabad and adjoining districts and took stock of the situation there.

The legislators were asked by Yadav to keep an eye on the situation and apprise the party and him about the ongoing developments in the area.

The VHP plans to keep the yatra going till September 13 to push for Ram temple at the disputed site.

Its leaders have also reportedly chalked out a plan to defy security arrangements and reach the venue by Sunday from where the yatra is scheduled to begin.

VHP on violation of state restriction is not legally right because no body is above law.

Secondly whenever they took the Yatra there was a lot of disturbance in the society
    1989- firing at lucknow
1992 - Babri Masjid demolition followed by the roits.
    2002 - Godhra roits.

By making yatra and createing public tension BJP is trying to get political gains

Even this yatra is a political stunt of BJP who is day dreaming of coming to power in next 2014 LS polls

Most of the BJP supporters names are fake. Unfortunately, they make spelling mistakes while writing name as well. For example, one fake gentleman always writes his name as 'Tomas' instead of 'Thomas'. Fake party with fake supporters. Jai Karnataka.

The sad thing of our people is that specially from these communally sensitive regions,no matter how bad or corrupt ones supporting party is, he just cant resist voting them to power just because of ones religion/caste .Till this cast politics exist, we so called educated fools will be continued to be fooled by so called uneducated / under educated but smart political leaders :(.Leave alone Modi even god can't help us unless we kick out religious politics.

VHP's rakes up this only during the time of elections & forgets it again for next 5 years . Again remembers after 5 years and then forgets , this sequence going on for last 23 years .

I guess now even the majority of Hindus are sick and tired of this thing . If they were really intending to build Ram temple they had full 5 years when NDA was ruling . But their intention is not to build the temple , just use for votes create communal disharmony . Nothing else .

Since many decades VHP is active in India and has played crucial role which has helped India as a nation. I do not think anyone should be worried of their yathra. I am sure they are responsible to conduct this yathra peacefully and with devotion. All who, do not like VHP's idea please stay at home and do not bother or disturb them.

    You are right - Sounds more like ' W-amanrao L-okande '

'Some' of the persons who are using any first name and Shetty as surname as id on this forum are not really Shettys.

They think they can have us fooled as Shetty is a popular and common name in South Canara which many 'outsiders' know,so they choose that id. These are mostly Modi supporters not even BJP supporters. I mean that they will not support Sushmaji or Advani.

This is nothing but appeasement of the communals which is done only when elections are around the corner for polarising voters. Modi's associate Amit Shah is BJP's poll campaign incharge from UP and I believe he is behind this.
