Chandigarh, Aug 24 (IANS): The Punjab government would set up 36 computerised integrated check-posts to ensure hassle-free movement of goods traffic and bring transparency in revenue collection.
Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal has directed the authorities concerned to construct and operationalise these check-posts by Jan 1, 2014 after the excise and taxation department put up the proposal.
While 11 would be major, 25 would be minor-scale posts.
Badal said, “Check-posts would have separate parking, loading and unloading areas besides restrooms and refreshing rooms for drivers. Heavy vehicle scanners, vehicle weighing platforms, high-resolution CCTV cameras and number plate capturing equipment would be the other facilities.”
“There would be six to seven bays for smooth and hassle-free disposal of goods traffic. Passenger traffic would not be stopped as there would be separate lanes for private tourist buses and taxis,” he added.
