Bollywood actor Om Puri booked for assaulting wife

Mumbai, Aug 26, (PTI) : Critically acclaimed Bollywood actor Om Puri has been booked for allegedly assaulting his wife at his apartment in suburban Andheri, police said here today.

"Om Puri's wife Nandita Puri approached us on Thursday night with a complaint against her husband. She complained that her husband Om Puri assaulted her with a wooden stick after which we registered an FIR against him," Senior Inspector Harishchandra Parmale, Versova police station, told PTI.

The 62-year-old actor has been booked under Section 324 (punishment for causing hurt by dangerous means), Section 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and Section 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and was declared absconding in the case, he said.

According to police, the duo began arguing about the maintenance of their flat in Trushil Building at Seven Bungalows in Andheri's Versova area, after which the enraged actor allegedly assaulted Nandita with a stick on Thursday night at about 9.00 PM.

Nandita reached the Versova police station by 11.30 PM on Thursday and lodged a complaint, the officer said.

    Uncontroled arguments may lead to a bad conseuence like this. If Om Puri is 62, his wife is not 26. Both are matured and why is this kiddish character. It is ok, patch up and continue with your married jouney.

    The dispute between the two has been going on for some years. We hear only one side of the story and what prompted Mr. Puri to raise his hand on his wife need to known. We can not always blame male partner. The woman should also realize that she is a wife and has certain obligations toward the husband as much as the responsibility a man has toward his wife. So, this is a give and take relation and both should try to learn forgive one another.

    Mr. Puri is a refined and international star and above all a very matured gentleman. I am sure something somewhere has gone wrong between the two and hope they would reconcile and live back happily.

    I say it again, Hitting women is bad... But there is no smoke without fire... There should be a law where women's tongue can he put in jail. When women argue they dont know what they say and hurt real bad. If law is made where insults and bad words can be taken into court, Half of all the wives in India will be in Jail.

    Man is outside Hitler but inside his chuva(rat) because he is afraid of wife??? reason some of ladies voice in front her husband is very loud.There should be a law to control women's tongue which can her put in jail. When women argue they don't know what they say and hurt others. We can't jump on any judgement without knowing the fact.

    Well with age people change. Almost 12 years back,i met this happy couple in Udupi Sri Krishna temple. Mr.omPuri was very polite & humble & We spoke almost for 10 minutes in Kannada.
    With age we build up anger,frustration, anxity..etc, specially when things dont go your way also when you dont get the love, respect, power once you enjoyed.
    Getting closer to God spiritually, yoga, keeping in touch with old friends,reading, Playing with kids, having a pet dog & limiting alchohol will definetly help..
