New Indonesian army chief sworn in


Jakarta, Aug 30 (IANS): Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono Friday appointed Lt Gen Budiman as the Indonesian army chief of staff to replace Gen Moeldoko.

Budiman was officially sworn in at the state palace along with Gen Moeldoko who was appointed the military commander, Xinhua reported.

Budiman was secretary general at the defence ministry and deputy army chief of staff. The Indonesian army faces challenges such as terrorism, transnational crimes and insurgency.
