Petrol price hiked by Rs 2.35 a litre, diesel by 50 paise

New Delhi, Aug 31 (PTI): Petrol price was today hiked by a steep Rs 2.35 per litre, the sixth increase in rates in three months, and diesel by 50 paise per litre on falling rupee and firming international oil prices.

The increase in rates, which will be effective midnight tonight, are excluding local sales tax or VAT, Indian Oil Corp, the nation's largest fuel retailer, announced. The actual hike will be higher and will vary from city to city.

Petrol price in Delhi will go up by Rs 2.83 to Rs 74.10 per litre while it will cost Rs 81.57 per litre in Mumbai as against Rs 78.61 currently.

This is the sixth increase in rates since June and in all petrol prices have gone up by a massive Rs 9.17 per litre, excluding VAT. Price of petrol in Delhi has gone up by over Rs 11 per litre after including state tax since June 1.

In a parallel move, diesel price was hiked by 50 paise, excluding VAT, in line with the January decision of the government allowing oil companies freedom to raise prices in small doses every month to wipe out mounting losses.

Diesel price in Delhi has been hiked by 57 paise to Rs 51.97 per litre while it will cost Rs 58.86 in Mumbai from tomorrow as compared to Rs 58.23 currently.

Today's hike in the eighth since the January 17 and most of the losses on diesel sales should have been wiped off by now to make the fuel market priced. But the fall in rupee, around 25 per cent since April, has worsened the situation and oil firms are losing Rs 12.12 per litre despite prices being raised by a cumulative Rs 4.75 this year.

Oil firms had on June 1 raised petrol prices by 75 paise, excluding VAT, and followed it with a Rs 2 per litre increase on June 16, a Rs 1.82 increase on June 29, Rs 1.55 hike on July 15 and 70 paise increase from August 1.

If the recent spate of negatives in our economy was not enough, this increase in fuel prices will add further fire to the already all time high inflation!! Only those with relatives having plush jobs abroad or those in business and those having access to easy money can survive even the little better of middle class will have to struggle, not to tell of the labor class! Estimates say only about 5% of Indians income per year is above 10 lacs!! In such a situation majority of middle class Indians are below the poverty line!!

This sort of uncontrolled fall of rupee and sky high rise in inflation will have rious effects on the fabric of the Society leading to all sorts of problems!!

In short it is funeral of the common aam aadmi!!!

    Jai Jawan Jai Kisan!!

Work hard is a good advice. Who says those who get rice for Re. 1 do not work hard? One cannot feed, clothe, educate, and medicate one’s family with Rs. 200 a day, not even with Rs. 500 a day. We don’t just boil the rice and eat it, we need onions, vegetables, and salt, condiments etc. and these are not given free. In my area, we cannot get a laborer even for Rs. 400 a day and they are not idle. The boy who brings my newspaper early morning, a class 9th student of a Kannada school, is from a family migrated from drought hit area, he rises early morning, delivers newspapers to about 70 houses by 7 a.m. and earns about 1200 Rs. a month, which helps for his and his siblings' education. His father is a laborer, who supports his family from his hard labor and they too have a dream to come up in life like others. They are not beggars, and rice for Re. 1 is not an almsgiving, but a support to realize their dreams by assuring that at least they have strength to work.

    What Yanbu & Mapusa(Mumbai)can do?
If every Government want to show off their weakness in one way or the other when they come to power for eg. by promising or giving rice at 1 rupee a kilo to BPL then it is a burden for the tax payers as well as for the country i.e. then the need to increase the prices of petrol / diesel or other commodities come into effect. This doesn't make much difference to the rich and poor as they enjoy their life according to their wishes and it is the middle class who suffers.
Hope that all the Governments stop these kinds of nonsense promises to please the voters during the elections as it only becomes a burden for the country during bad times. NOW WHO IS GOING TO SELL OR DEPOSIT THE GOLD FOR THE COUNTRY?

It is a crisis of our (central government) own making. Mainly due to populist policies. People should also realise that when you get 1 kg rice for Re.1 eventually we'll have to pay for it. Instead go and work hard. You'll earn at least Rs.200 a day. You need not beg government for Re.1 per kg rice.

We cannot blindly follow a couple of centuries old, slow and steady concept and face high fuel prices, health hazardous pollutions, costs, disturbed society, unstable economy and unclean environment.
Think different, change concept, pull and move instead carry and move, consider to generate too instead of mere spending (energy) and move from evolution to revolutionary mode are the best options to get relief from this adverse situation.
If we implement a change, we can enjoy incredible solutions and amazing benefits.

Congress back on growth track. First they allow Rupee to get weak and then say oil is now expensive to import because of weak Rupee, then increase the prices of Petrol and Disiel. Wow now that's what is great thinking and vision for the country - A gift from congress. Now prices for all commodities are bound to increase inturn leading to increased inflation which will add to the economic mess already created by the great UPA. Ho raha hai Bharath Nirmaan
